Below are ideas and resources to help support learning continuity for families. The resources are grouped by Elementary, Middle, and Secondary and are aimed to support your child’s development in: literacy (reading & writing), numeracy, and their well-being.
We hope you will find these suggested activities build on how you already support your child in their learning. The intent is only to supplement what teachers will be providing if you would like to extend learning opportunities during this challenging time.

Learning Continuity for Elementary Families
Dear Elementary Families,
These are difficult times for many families, and every family’s situation is different. Most importantly, take care of yourself and your family as we navigate these times together. It is important that we feel safe and connected as we explore new ways of learning at home, while not adding more stress as you aim to support your child’s learning.

As you engage in this new way of learning together, have fun, laugh, share your new learning too. If it becomes frustrating for anyone, take a break, and be gentle with each other. Everyone is doing the best they can.

Some kids need more structure in their days, some are comfortable with flexibility. You know your child best and what will work best for them and you. These are extraordinary times, so the expectation is to not replace or mimic school times. Be gentle with yourself and your young adolescent.
