Child Care

The Sooke School District is committed to supporting families by improving access to affordable, high-quality child care. We are working with trusted providers to expand child care options that meet the needs of our diverse community. This includes offering services that are inclusive, culturally responsive, and aligned with the BC Early Learning Framework.

Our Child Care Priorities

  • Expanding access to affordable, high-quality child care through a combination of District-operated and third-party-operated sites.
  • Promoting inclusivity to ensure child care services meet the diverse needs of all children and families.
  • Advancing Indigenous reconciliation by fostering culturally responsive practices within child care settings.
  • Maintaining alignment with the District’s Child Care Policy, Strategic Plan, and management philosophy.
  • Implementing the BC Early Learning Framework to support a holistic approach to early childhood education.
  • Participating in the Provincial Fee Reduction Initiative to reduce the cost of child care for families.

The REIQ Process

In June 2024, current third-party child care providers were notified about the transition to a Request for Expressions of Interest and Qualifications (REIQ) process. The REIQ was posted on BC Bid in October 2024. Successful applicants are expected to begin providing their services on school district property between summer and fall 2025.
