Welding Upgrade Celebration for EMCS and RBSS

Date

In May, we were able to gather at the Royal Bay Secondary School welding shop and celebrate with our donors who have made significant contributions to the welding facilities and programming at Edward Milne Community School and Royal Bay Secondary School.

Since 2017, the CWB Welding Foundation, through the Dennis and Phyliss Washington Foundation has donated over $85,000 to the Metal Task Program and welding shop at Edward Milne Community School in Sooke. The program there is thriving and hosts 16 to 18 students each semester under the guidance of Instructor Matt Harmeson.

They have also contributed over $75,000 in capital equipment and funding to the Metal Task Program and welding shop here at Royal Bay Secondary School, which the district matched with an additional donation of $75,000. The program here sees 8 full blocks of metal shop classes under the instruction of Landon Craven for students from Grade 9 to 12.

Their commitment goes beyond our students and facilities, they have also invested in our instructors by providing Educator Training sessions and CWB Certification testing.

We are grateful to the CWB Welding Foundation and the Dennis and Phyliss Washington Foundation for being a partner in student success and helping us offer non-traditional learning spaces that honour student voice and student choice.
