Ruth King Elementary is a K-5 school located in central Langford on the lands of the Esquimalt and Songhees Nations and as a school community, we embrace all traditional territories of the Coast Salish peoples. This year we have 17 divisions and a total of 385 students, being educated with a staff of 54 people. Our school is centrally located on Jacklin Road and Goldstream Avenue which is the hub of Langford. We have a wonderful school property that is used by the community on a daily basis, because of its location and diversity of options for play. It includes two adventure playgrounds; swings and a sandbox; several soccer fields; three baseball diamonds; a basketball and hockey court; a nature play space; and a school garden. Our local neighborhood is rapidly expanding with development especially in the form of condominiums. Surrounding housing includes single family homes, townhouses, condominiums, Indigenous housing and short-term housing facilities. Most of our students are able to walk and/or bike to and from school. Ruth King has many extra programs such as Strong Start, Journey of the Heart, Before School Program, After School Program and Hot Lunch Program. We serve a diverse population and have recently welcomed more new families from a variety of cultural backgrounds adding to the richness of our school. Our staff is a dedicated, caring and professional team who prides themselves on meeting the needs of our diverse community.
